Well done on the article and many valid points. I would like to add some research data to your question about whether energy monitors have "stickiness" or just a short term gadget. We, Blue Line Innovations, have been in the space of real time energy reporting with our product the PowerCost Monitor, since 2003. Over that time we have completed many long term research pilot studies with both US and Canadian utilities.

This utility research shows that after 18 months +50% of the homes using the PowerCost Montior "check in" on the real time energy monitor 1 or more times per day. These are fantastic results and demonstrate that this information is of value to the homeowner and can drive long term, sustainable behavior change and energy consumption reductions.

Thanks for your coverage in this area. Its a simple concept, a simple today technology that can help every home owner make a significant reduction in their monthly electricity bill.
